Cailyn | Senior Portraits

"Some day you will be old enough to start reading fairy tales again.” -C.S Lewis

At the end of October, on a sunny and beautiful Sunday afternoon, I spent some time with Cailyn and her family.  Cailyn is graduating high school this year, and so we took some senior portraits of her to commemorate this important event!

This past June, it was my 10th anniversary since graduating high school.  I remember when I graduated that I  was full of ideas, queries, and wonderings about what my life would be like in ten years.  The life I lead now I feel priveledged to be leading it.  I'm married to my best friend, and love him more than I did yesterday and the day before that; I'm a mum to the cutest kid ever who is beyond full of personality.  I get to photograph love and life.  I get to empower people on  a daily basis to run hard in their lives and live in freedom.  And not only all of this, but I'm constantly chasing my passions.  I don't think I would have ever imagined my life to be what it is now, and I'm so glad for that.

When I met Cailyn, I was struck by her strength and kindness.  You can tell that she really knows who she is and loves herself in such an amazing way.  She is definitely loyal, wise, and lifts so many up.  She loves to read, can dance, and seems so wise beyond her years. Life has so many amazing opportunities for her up its sleeve- I can feel it!

Thank you so much Cailyn for hanging out, and congratulations on your FINAL year in high school! I'm so excited for what the future has for you! Remember to chase your passions, and be passionate about your life at all points! <3

Ramsey Family

It was my parents 30th Anniversary in August and a big birthday for my dad at the end of October and to celebrate they flew us all to Palm Springs, and we spent a week together! This is the first time we have all been to Palm Springs together since they bought their home down here, and it was the new grand kids first time here and to Disneyland (where we spent Andy's birthday!).

We haven't really done family photos since my sister graduated High school, and it's only been weddings since... so we decided to do some family photos this morning on the last day with all of us in Palm Springs together.  We totally lucked out, because the sun decided to hang out behind some clouds and it only came out for the final 15 minutes of the shoot!  Big thanks to my brother Kellen who got some great shots of Andy, Harper & I.  It was pretty fun setting up the camera on one of the strollers for the big family shot, and then running back into the photo.

My parents have fought hard for their relationship, their family and their lives. They are such incredible parents- dependable, loving, uplifting, building, ever encouraging, always there for you, and they cheer you on no matter what. I'm so grateful for the life they have given us, the example they have provided and the wisdom they have. Love you mum and dad!   Happy 30th Anniversary and Happy Birthday, Dad!

Clair & Her Babes

"All that I am, or hope to be, I owe to my angel mother." -Abraham Lincoln

I read that quote after I photographed Clair and her babes last week... and it just melted my heart.  Being a mom is quite possibly the hardest thing I have ever done, but it is also the best thing I have ever done.  Loving a tiny human that I created, it's just so amazing.  You choose who you fall in love with, but your children are predisposed for your love.  They grow inside you, are nurtured by our bodies, and when they come earth side from the womb, the explosion of emotion that are pointed at this tiny human is so overwhelming.  I hope one day that Harper will be able to say that who she is, is because of how I loved her, walked with her, and encouraged her.

So many emotions- need to stop. ha ha.

Clair loves her babies fiercely; she is such a strong mumma.  I don't joke when I say she is probably one of the strongest women I know, and no matter what life throws at her, she always find a way to make life full.  Logan and Zoey are so lucky that they have her to be their example- they are going to grow up knowing how to be positive and strong no matter what, and how to love life fiercely.  I've only known Clair a short while, but this lady is a good one- the world should know her.

Thanks so much Clair for giving me the honour of capturing your amazing little family <3

The Allard Family

The greatest thing about being a photographer is when people from your past get in touch and want you to photograph their families. Honestly, there is no great honour than being able to do that.  When I got the email from Jen, I could hardly believe what I was reading- they wanted family photos with their kids AND grandkids!  Time is so interesting... I realize that I have obviously grown up, matured, gotten married, and have become a mother; but when I think back to the people from my childhood, it almost feels so distant that you encapsulate them as never aging, never changing... just a random thought ha ha.  When I was a kid, we all went to the same church, and Kelly & Kate graduated from the same school I did a few years ahead of me.  As time goes on, you lose touch, but it was so good seeing them and seeing how well time a treated them!  Kelly has two gorgeous little girls who are so fun, and interested in the world around them.

This family really knows how to laugh, and how to love well. I feel like I say that all the time, but when I was with them I could just feel the authenticity of their love.  You can tell that Jen & Tom have really cultivated purposeful passion for one another, and it has spilled over into all who know them... but their kids especially.  I'm so grateful that I got to hang out with you all for the night, and catch up after all these years.  Thank you for trusting me in capturing your family!

The Mitchell's

Man, where do I even begin with this amazing family..I have had the absolute privilege of knowing this family for the past 5 and a half years... I spent many afternoons and Saturday mornings in their home, hanging out with their kids (mainly Caleb), getting to know them on such a deep level.. and there is no other family that really exemplifies what strength can come from continuing to carry on and to find joy.  They laugh hard, build one another up, and have more strength than any one else I know.

Some of you may not be aware, but before I went on mat leave I worked as an Autism Support Worker/ Education Assistant/ Behavior Interventionist. My main role is to support students who are diagnosed with Autism, and help see them succeed in achieving their goals, academically, socially, and personally.  I supported Caleb in the classroom from Grade Two until half way through Grade Five at a school in Port Coquitlam and was on his home team.

How do I describe the coolest kid in the entire world?  First off, he can tell you everything you could ever know about super heroes, directors, actors, what years certain films came out, and he can draw for literally hours a day!  Caleb and I would play Lego for hours together, we would draw, go for walks, learn to tie shoes, do math, write hilarious stories, talk about everything, and play hide & seek!  Caleb has his own Facebook page with his best friend- Gilmore, the autism assistance dog.  Gilmore goes to school with Caleb, and their bond is amazing!

I love this family, and photographing them was like photographing my own family.  I worked with Caleb on his home team until the end of last summer, when I was 13 weeks pregnant.  So Caleb got to see Harper's first picture, and he was so interested in reading all about how she was developing in my tummy.

This family has taught me how to persevere, how to keep trying even when it's hard, how to love unconditionally, and how to find strength from within.  Nikki & Todd are incredible parents and love their kids so well.  Thanks so much for hanging out with me for the evening and chasing the sunset.  Caleb, you were such an excellent assistant that evening :)  Love you guys <3
